Humane Animal Dispatch Award (HAD)
This national qualification is essential as a pre-requisite for those involved in supporting the Police at emergency incidents where injured deer are caught up on road networks
and within rural or urban environments.
Why is this qualification important?
- Ensures the humane treatment of injured animals.
- Provides necessary skills for emergency responders.
- Enhances safety and efficiency in handling wildlife incidents.
Attendance at a course does not guarantee acceptance onto a police HAD scheme, however the qualification is open to anyone wishing to extend their knowledge.

Registration
If you wish to register for HAD, you should contact an Assessment Centre and obtain a registration form. Your chosen Assessment Centre will advise you of their fees and what you are required to do next.
Assessment Centres usually offer assessment at venues around the country with published dates of events.
Assessment
- Written. This has 20 multiple choice questions which are taken from a bank of written questions. To pass, at least 16 questions must be answered correctly.
- Scenario. This is a practical around a number of realistic scenario
Certification
After the HAD test papers are assessed, they are internally verified by the Assessment Centre. Provided there are no problems, the Assessment Centre will then advise DMQ and a HAD certificate will be issued.
You should keep your certificate safe and keep a record of the number as this will be your DMQ number for life and will be maintained for all qualifications.
